What is the Montreal Protocol?
It is a protocol put into place on January 1, 1989, to reduce the use of ozone depleting substances. It was negotiated by scientists from many countries around the world.

How does it Work?It bans the use of ozone depleting substances in participating countries. After the discovery of the hole in the ozone above Antarctica, many trading countries met to negotiate a treaty to prevent the use of these substances. They made the treaty and have updated it over the years.
