An example of positive feedback as it relates to climate change is seen in the relationship between the carbon cycle and release of methane gasses into the atmosphere. Global warming through the greenhouse effect causes an increase in the amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. Global warming leads to an increase in carbon which leads to an increase in methane released in the atmosphere. This methane is found in thawing Arctic permafrost and the melting of other ice which can lead to the exposure of previously untapped methane deposits.
